The Royal Mint
The Royal Mint has minted coins for England and ultimately Great Britain for over 1100 years.
As of 2010, the Mint continued under the name Royal Mint LTD, which was owned by HM Treasury and had an exclusive contract to supply all coins for the United Kingdom. In addition to minting the coins for the United Kingdom, The Royal Mint also mints and exports coins to many other countries and produces military and commemorative items.
The Royal Mint also manufactures precious metal products under the brand "The Royal Mint Refinery". The brand "The Royal Mint Refinery" goes back to 1852. Operated for more than 100 years by N.M. Rothschild and Sons, it became an established brand with a strong reputation for processing much of the gold and silver bullion sent to London from around the world for processing under the RMR label until production ceased in 1968. The Royal Mint Refinery brand was revived by The Royal Mint in 2015, when it began issuing gold and silver bars. The range was later expanded to include minted bars bearing themes of the Royal Mint's bullion coins (e.g. Britannia, James Bond etc.). Today, the mint is based in Llantrisant, Mid Glamorgan, Wales.
